First Ride of 2008

Went on the first bike ride of the 2008 cycling season yesterday. Just an easy 15 miles or so on Grant's Trail. Felt good to be back in the saddle again.

Weather today is also warm so hubby and I are planning another ride -- probably try Route 66 State Park today, since it is one we haven't done before. This park was created out of what used to be the Times Beach community.

Hi Beth, I'm planning a coast to coast cycle this May and stumbled across your blog (I key worded St Louis, Catholic, and Cycling in Google!) and found it very helpful (especially the descriptions of St Louis and the links you have chosen). Anyway, I'd simply like to to say thank you and best of luck with the cycling in 2008!

Dominic,

Thanks much for your response. I'd love to meet with you when you come through town if you have time. I'd also be glad to help you with anything else you need in/around St. Louis for your trip.

Thanks Beth, I'm hoping to stay in St Louis for a couple of days and have a rest from the cycling, so should have the time to meet up. As soon as I have more details I will let you know.

Would you recommend the Adventure Cycling Great Rivers Trail into town?

Dominic, I assume you mean this leg: http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes/transamerica.cfm?pg=detail&s=9
If so, it shouldn't be bad as it looks like it keeps you away from most major traffic. The drawback to it is that it takes you about 30 miles south of St. Louis. Of course, we'd be happy to coordinate with you to take you (and your bike) up to STL for a visit/rest days.

Yes, that's the one I will be following and then connect with the Lewis & Clark Trail. I know it looks a bit crazy, but it gives me the option of cutting SL out should time not allow for a visit (I only have a 90 day visa). A more detailed route can be found here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/St-Louis-Loop

Less than 10 weeks to go till I fly out to Washington DC, getting a bit nervous thinking about it, but it should be a real adventure - I have never visited the States before, so it should be a real eye opener!

That's exciting. You will see more of the US than I have, a lifelong resident. Where are you from?

I live a couple of miles away from Wimbledon in South West London (UK). Yes, it should turn out to be a real adventure, will write a blog especially, hoping to set one up by the end of the week, so everyone can follow.
